Valerie Joy Awad

AWAD - Valerie Joy (nee Piper), age 85 and lifelong resident of Clio, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina.  Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church,  4133 Calkins Road, Flint, Michigan.  Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.  The family will receive guests at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Valerie to the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org).

Valerie was born on December 2, 1938 in Flint, Michigan to the late Chester Lawrence and Ethel Carey (Holt) Piper.  She worked as the Production Manager for the Whiting Auditorium for many years before retiring in 2000 in addition to many local volunteer activities, including the MYO Program at Our Lady of Lebanon.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Kozan; Dawn Shultz; Joe Awad; Tom Awad; and Janet Klein.  Grandchildren, Eric; Sarah; Stephanie; Chandler; Lisa; Lori; George; Leonna; Jenna, Matthew and Emily.  Many extended family members also survive.  Valerie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; twin-brother, Dallas Piper, and grandson, Max.
