Vashti HAMMOND

HAMMOND, Vashti -- Age 88, of Flint, died January 10, 2014 at Durand Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center, Durand. A celebration of life memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 1 at the United in Christ Lutheran Church, G-6330 Corunna Rd., Flint, Pastor Stephen Stahlhut officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or the United in Christ Lutheran Church. Vashti was born February 17, 1925 in Doniphan, MO. the daughter of Ira and Lois ( Bettis ) Smith. She married Edward R. Hammond December 31, 1941 in Flint, MI; he preceded her in death on October 3, 2006. Vashti was a graduate of Mt. Morris High School. She retired from AC Spark Plug with 22 years of service. She was a member of United in Christ Lutheran Church. Surviving are: 3 children, Lois (Clinton) Campbell of Battle Creek, Elizabeth (Dana) McKinney of Maine, Michael (Janice) Hammond of Swartz Creek; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great -great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward; grandson ChristopherVander Gronden; 3 sisters, Georgia Willette, Jesse Graham, Madeline Ballard; and brother Martin Smith.
