DODGE, Velma L., - age 93, of Fenton, passed away Monday, October 06, 2014. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Gathering will be held 3PM to 6PM, Thursday, October 9th at Sharp Funeral Home, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Velma was born June 23, 1921 in Flint to Tom and Myrtle Polsgrove. She was one of eleven children and throughout her long life; she enjoyed their many reunions and celebrations. Velma graduated from Central High School where she played varsity basketball. She married Edwin Charles Dodge on August 14, 1943. He served in Patton's army and returned to buy their farm on Dodge Road. There they raised ponies and horses and participated in many horse related activities including: 4H, Quarter Horse Shows, and the Genesee County Sheriff's Posse. During this time, Velma also enjoyed her work at Kresge's as head cashier. During her widowhood, Velma enjoyed several activities at the Burton Senior Center. She served on the board of the Senior Olympics and earned senior gold medal in ice skating, lawn bowling, and Euchre. All her life, she was an avid reader and gardener. Velma is survived by: son, Ted R. Dodge and his wife Martha; sisters, Madeline Bright, Carol Nelson and Susi Swatzel; brother, Ron Polsgrove; and numerous nieces and nephews.
