Age 67, of Swartz Creek, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019, with both her daughter and best friend at her side. Vera succumbed to complications of lung cancer following a very recent diagnosis. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, October 25, 2019, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, with Pastor Larry Survance officiating. Interment will follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery in Mt. Morris. Visitation will be held from 12-3 and 5-8pm on Thursday.
Vera was born in Waynesburg, PA, on October 30, 1951, daughter of Clair and Mary (Bane-Artis) St. Clair. Following her high school graduation, she served in the United States Marine Corp, receiving an honorable discharge. Vera married Jim Estep on September 6, 1975, in Cleveland, OH, although they spent most of their life together, and raised their only daughter, in the Mt. Morris area. Vera dedicated much of her life to being a homemaker, but ultimately discovered her joy of working retail. Vera worked at the membership service desk at the Flint Township Sam’s Club for the past 21 years. While there, she made many friends out of co-workers and customers alike. Most notably, she delighted in the friendship, companionship, and adventures shared between her, Michelle, Carla, and Bea. Her greatest joy of all, however, was becoming a grandma. She had an undeniable bond with her grandson Kolby. Following the death of her husband, Vera moved to the Swartz Creek area to be closer to her daughter and family. Whether tirelessly playing games and having Nerf wars with her grandson, receiving endless kisses from her grand-dogs, or enduring marathon shopping sprees with her daughter, Vera was always present for those she loved!
Vera came from a family of seven, five sisters and two brothers. Although they reside in different states, Vera often traveled to visit, and embarked on yearly “sister trips” to a variety of destinations. Although her time here seems too short, the lives she touched will forever be grateful.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Jamie; son-in-law, Don Adams; grandsons, Jacob (McKenzie), Joshua, and Kolby Adams; siblings, Dot (Mike) Marty and Jackie (Bob) Childers, both of WI; Bev (Umit) Basoglu of VA, Charlie (Cindy) Artis of MO, and Mary Kay (Robin) Thomas of PA/FL, as well as her Sam’s Club friends and family.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband Jim (2008), her parents, sister Jodi Corn, and brother Bill Artis.
A sincere note of appreciation to the Henry Ford-Detroit, resolute team of ICU nurses and intensivists who vigorously provided her care with endless pursuit of her comfort, and compassion for her family. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
