Interment will be Friday, August 1st, at 10:30 AM in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Those desiring may make contributions to Wreaths Across America.

Wade was born December 20, 1968 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Allen and Sandra (Duranceau) Gottschalk. He was a 1987 graduate of Holly High School and a 1991 graduate of Central Michigan University. He was proud veteran of the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. In June 2012, Wade graduated Magna Cum Laude from Baker College with his second Bachelor's degree. He went on to teach there until the campus moved from Flint. He worked for twenty years with Axletech/Meritor/Cummins in Troy, most recently in the role of Sr. Project Engineer.

In October of 2002, Wade married his love, Nina Hammontree. He felt very blessed to have her and her children in his life and he relished his role as grandpa and great-grandpa.

Wade will be remembered as a big man, with a big voice, who liked to tell stories and to tease. But he was also a very caring, generous, and sensitive sole who found the many losses he faced over the last few years difficult to navigate. He was so grateful for all of his friends and family who helped him through.

Wade will be greatly missed by those he left behind: his sisters, Malinda and Andrea Gottschalk; children, Joseph (Jessica) Shay, Amy Shay; grandchildren, Abigail Wentworth, Logan (Reasha) Shay, Megan Shay, and Tristan DeFrank; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Harper, and future baby Shay; his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and his dog Misty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife Nina.
