Walter Leo LIEBENGOOD

December 17, 1955 — September 26, 2013

LIEBENGOOD, Walter Leo -- Age 57, was born December 17, 1955, in Flint, Michigan and passed on September 26, 2013 as a result of a house fire at his log home in Richmond, Kentucky. Visitation on Saturday, March 15, 2014 starting at 1 PM with a service at 4 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, MI, 48473. Walt embraced the country lifestyle donning blue jeans and a ball cap on nearly every occasion from yard work to graduations and arrived by pickup truck with his dog Buddy by his side. He believed anything could be fixed with duct tape but was a skilled carpenter and log home builder. He was kind to those in need and loved animals. Walt worked at Meijer from high school until his death and functioned as the store union steward for a time in Flint. He taught his boys three key lessons: how to throw a baseball, how to hit a golf ball, and how to love regardless. While his love for family never wandered, his golf ball was consistently sliced. Walt passed on a quick wit, male pattern baldness, bargain shopping, and the ability to answer any question, irrespective of whether he knew the real answer. When he was not hunting golf balls, Walt was an avid deer hunter. He is rumored to have taken the largest buck (Bucky) at deer camp, a fact still in dispute to this day as he was also known to miss a shot or two on occasion, yet another trait he lovingly passed to his son. Like his shots, he will be missed. Walt is survived by son Ryan Liebengood and his wife Holly; son Eric Liebengood and his wife Brandie; brother Kirk Liebengood; sister Gail Liebengood; sister Frances Gates; former wife Dorine Liebengood; aunt Carolyn Topham; uncle Larry Topham; uncle Robert MacDermaid; uncle Donald Rutledge; aunt Sandra Herrick; nephew Kirk Liebengood, Jr. and his family; and niece Krista Empie and her family. He was preceded in death by mother Bonnie Morgan; father Melvin Liebengood; daughter-in-law Megan Liebengood; aunts Sally MacDermaid and Nordeen Rutledge; niece Teresa Liebengood; grandparents; and dog Buddy. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
