Walter was born on August 14, 1946 in Sprott, Alabama to the late Ben & Eunice Mahan. He graduated from Mason County Eastern High School. Walter was employed with General Motors within the paint body shop for over 44 years before retiring in 2008. Walter loved to spend his time fishing and hunting whether it was with friends or family. He is known for being a talented cook and could prepare any meal you could ask for. For many years before he fell sick, he kept a hobby farm on his land and gardened. Walter rode his motorcycle in his younger years and was always a man of distinguished fashion. Above all Walter has a tender hearted man who loved his daughters, grandkids and great-grandkids dearly.
Walter leaves behind his loving wife, Kimberle Mahan-West; his daughters, Felicia Wilson, Marcella (Eric) Wright, Loree Moore, Twyla Mahan, Makayla (Dylan) Hillier and Nekisha Lewis; 12 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Walter is further survived by 6 sisters, 3 brothers, nieces, nephews and other dear family members and friends too numerous to list but never forgotten.
In addition to his parents, Ben (Eunice) Mahan, Walter was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Marcus Wilson and Rodney Wooten; three great-grandchildren, Jimar Jones, Dacari Mahan and Tatiana Mahan; three brothers, Ben, Ottis, Walter Jr. and four sisters, Eddie Mosley, Claritha Jackson, Dorothy Burns and Callie Person.
