William Henry Cottenham - Age 94, of Durand, passed away November 3, 2025. Born July 23, 1931 in Durand, the son of the late Ralph L. and Maretta (McDowell) Cottenham. Bill started his career in 1950 at Grand Trunk Railroad, alongside his father and brothers. He was a member of the Naval Reserves and was then drafted into the US Army, where he served for 3 years. He returned to Grand Trunk Railroad following his military service until his retirement in 1992. Bill enjoyed hunting and was an avid golfer, particularly after retirement, where he played in many leagues. In his younger years, he loved playing guitar and was in a band.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Kristine (Bill) Lepior; and his cherished son, William Cottenham II. He took great pride in his grandchildren, Amy (Josh) Park and Benjamin (Jamie) Lepior, and will be fondly remembered by his great-grandchildren, Malakai, William, Jenna, and Audrey, who brought abundant joy to his life. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Dasen, Virginia Cottenham, and Helen Cottenham. William was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Norma Mae Cottenham on March 3, 2025; and brothers, Forest and Harve.
Funeral services will be held 12PM Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held from 11AM until the time of service. Private burial will follow in Fremont Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the Karen K. Dasen Memorial Scholarship - Shiawassee Community Foundation.
