William Joseph Findlater

February 25, 1957 — May 22, 2026

Fenton

William Joseph Findlater—known to most simply as Bill—lived a life defined by laughter, generosity, and a remarkable ability to turn just about anyone he met into a friend.

Born in Flint, Michigan, and a longtime resident of Fenton, Bill brought warmth and energy everywhere he went. He spent 40 years as a pharmacist, a career that suited him perfectly combining his sharp mind with his natural kindness and steady, reassuring presence.

Bill was fun-loving, selfless, kind, impeccably mannered, “wicked smart,” and always ready with a well-timed joke. He truly enjoyed life—whether tending to his garden, boating on Silver Lake, competing on the pickleball court, or making yearly memories at the Wheatland Music Festival with great friends. Above all else, he treasured time with his family and took immense pride in his children and being “Papa” to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Bernadette (Desmarais) Findlater (married in 1986); his sons, Alexander (Katie), Maxwell, Andrew, and Garrett (Ryan) Findlater; and his beloved granddaughters, Evelyn and Isla. He is also survived by his siblings, Cathy North, Mary Sue (Scott) Ward, and Joseph Findlater. Bill also had several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia (O’Keefe) Findlater, and his father, William G. Findlater,

Bill’s greatest gift was his ability to connect with people—he never met a stranger, and he made friends everywhere he went. He had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and just a little happier for having known him.

In keeping with Bill’s relaxed and joyful spirit, no formal service will be held. Instead, a celebration of life will be planned for this summer—an opportunity for family and friends to gather, share stories, laugh, and honor a man who truly knew how to live well.

Bill’s legacy is simple and lasting: be kind, enjoy the moment, and don’t forget to laugh along the way.
