William Olson Gray, age 93, of Swartz Creek, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Vibrant Life Assisted Living in Durand. A funeral ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Private interment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 25, and again from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the American Legion Post #294.
William was born on August 20, 1932, in Onaway, Michigan, the son of the late Orin and Esther (Olson) Gray. He was a 1950 graduate of Onaway High School. Following his education, William enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954.
He met, dated, fell in love with, and was united in marriage to Ann Marie Bednar on July 3, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas. Together, they built a life centered on family, faithfulness, and love that spanned more than seven decades. William worked for 38 years for GM Truck and Bus and was a member of UAW Local 598 until his retirement in 1989. He was a proud member of American Legion Post #294.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Ann Marie; his children, Marcia (Richard) Bush, Mark Gray, Mitchell (Susan) Gray, Michele (Jeff) James, and Colette (Bruce) Bridgewater; his grandchildren, Brandy (Lionel) Arredondo, Stephanie (Richard), Christopher (Misti) Bush, Sean (Christine) Gray, Erin (Justin) Brown, Nathan (Paige) James and Jordan Gray; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his five brothers, Thomas, Robert, Harry, Richard, and Benjamin Gray; and his sister, Carol Gray Smith.
