William Ben IRWIN

IRWIN, William Ben - Age 66, of Fenton, died Saturday, January 4, 2014. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Tyrone Covenant Presbyterian Church, 10235 White Lake Road, Fenton. Pastor James Mascow officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held at the church Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to the William Ben Irwin Memorial Fund. Arrangements are being handled by Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Ben was born February 14, 1947 in Flint, the son of Wilfred B. and Dora L. (Leperance) Irwin. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. 3rd Marine Division, he also served in the Michigan National Guard. He married Martha Mae Hyypio November 25, 1983 in Fenton. He retired from AC Spark Plug after 30 years of service. He was a member of Tyrone Covenant Presbyterian Church, Oakland County Sportsmen Club, Linden Sportsmen Club, and the Oakland County Mountain Man Reenactment Group. He also was a foster parent and worked with the United Way and Old Newsboys. Ben enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and Mountain Man reenacting. Surviving are: his wife of 30 years, Martha; 3 sons, Jason Irwin, Justin and wife Kristen Irwin, Benjamin Irwin all of Fenton; 4 grandchildren, Victoria Hall, MyKenzye Irwin, Spencer Irwin, and Stella Irwin; father-in-law, Edward and wife Evelyn Hyypio of Fenton; brothers-in-law, Bob and wife Marsha Hyypio of Florida and Bill and wife Sharon Hyypio of Pelkie; sisters-in-law, Phylis and husband David Vasquez of Texas and Jennifer and husband Matthew Mather of Flint; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Donald and Daniel. Online tributes may be posted on the obituaries page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
