Kershaw, William Lewis - passed away peacefully the morning of Wednesday, August 28, 2013 . Born in Rives, Missouri on July, 24, 1926, he spent the majority of his 87 years in Fenton. Bill, as most knew him, was a proud World War II veteran. He only spoke of the deep pride he felt having had the opportunity to serve the country he loved. He served in the Navy on the LST 751, earning four battle stars and the Phillippine Liberation Ribbon at sea in the South Pacific. Bill also is credited with shooting down two Kamikaze planes. He met his loving wife, Olevia (Charlie) Kershaw (nee Young) at Barney's Restaurant in Fenton, where she waited tables. The couple married in 1947. They made their home in Fenton, raising two children, both graduating from Fenton High School. Kershaw owned and operated Bills Barber Shop in Fenton for many years. He was also a real estate agent in Fenton and helped found the First National Bank of Fenton, which is now Merit Bank. A sharp dresser with a penchant for the "English language and etiquette, Bill was quite the 'man about town.' Bill enjoyed golf, playing cards, being with people, and his grandchildren. Kershaw is survived by his devoted wife, Olevia Kershaw, of Fenton, loving son Joseph (Graciela) Kershaw of Bogota, Colombia, and daughter Laura "Kay"(Frank) Jones of Fenton, five grandchildren, Shane (Amy) O'Dell of Ferndale, MI, Jesse Kershaw, Roseville, MI, Robert (Hayley) Kershaw of Roseville, MI, Holly Kershaw , Roseville, and Lauren(Tony) Slatton of Mt. Morris, MI;, as well as three great grandchildren. Services For Bill will be held 11 AM Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Friday at the funeral home where a VFW memorial service will be held at 7 PM under the auspices of Fenton VFW Curtis Wolverton Post 3243.
