William "Bill" Kuehl was born in Windom, MN on December 7, 1932, to Alfred S. Kuehl & Ina P. Kuehl (Wellman) & raised in Storden, MN. He met the love of his life, Betty L. Larson, at a baseball game when Betty's twin sister swiped his baseball cap & threw it to Betty. Their love story then ensued. While courting, they would enjoy going to the movies, spending time with their families, working the family farm & rabbit hunting. William was deployed to Korea, serving in the U.S. Army March 23,1953 - January 5, 1955. Before he left for Korea, he had asked Betty to wait for him & asked her to marry him. They were wed after his return to the states on March 6, 1955.
William & Betty would move from the family farm in Minnesota & plant their roots in Michigan to raise their family. William's career began with National Trailer Convoy, then to Transit Homes, Inc. & finally establishing their own business, becoming owner & operator of Kuehl Transport. William would operate his business until retirement in 2021. He was named "Truck Driver of the Year", received the "President's Commendation Award" from Transit Homes, Inc. several years & had received honors for having moved over 750 homes in 1 year & over 850 homes in another year.
William's passions included playing the harmonica, telling jokes to anyone he met, gardening (an acre & a half!), driving his semi-truck hauling mobile homes, raising ducks, turkeys, geese & chickens, volunteering his extra time to the church, chopping wood, talking on the phone to customers & anyone who had the extra time to talk, & spending time with his family. He grew the most delicious sweet corn, would try to grow the hottest peppers (so hot you couldn't eat them) & made sure Betty had green beans to can (even though it wasn't discovered until the past year that he never liked green beans). He was a proud Korean War Veteran & had the honor of going on a Mid-Michigan Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. William & Betty enjoyed numerous trips throughout the years going to Minnesota for several family occasions, traveling the states & visiting their time share in Las Vegas.
He was a man of faith who loved his family & church with all of his heart. He was a genuinely kind man, made friends wherever he went, had a contagious smile & took pride in making people smile & laugh. Bill would always say, "You can share that joke with someone else & make them laugh too." He was known for always sharing copies of "Reflections - Tears From the Wall" & the Tootsie Roll Tale.
Bill was a respectful son, honorable soldier, loving husband, brother & uncle, supportive dad, proud grandpa, loyal friend & a hardworking man. He was a lifelong member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church of Flint, MI.
He is survived by his children, Joseph (Morgan) Kuehl of Swartz Creek, Bill (Alesha) Kuehl of Swartz Creek, Aimee (Dale) Noye of Gaines; grandchildren Krista Kuehl & Elizabeth Kuehl, bonus grandchildren Nicole Cates, Sarah Cates, Ginney Sladko & Jake Belinsky; great grandchildren Jailyn, Brooklyn, Harley, Hunter & Leo. Bill is further survived by his sisters Barbara Hunter & Phyllis Kuehl, dearly loved sister-in-law Barbara Hoppe, many beloved nieces and nephews & close family friend "son", Mark Cassiday & so many dear friends. Bill was proceeded in death by the love of his life Betty L. Kuehl, sisters Lois Galer & Myrtis Horkey, parents Alfred & Ina Kuehl, mother & father-in-law Florence & Joseph Larson, brothers-in-law & nephews & niece.
