William Schongalla III

William "Bill" Schongalla III, a beloved educator and administrator, passed away at the age of 81 on Friday, July 14, 2023, at St. Mary's Trinity in Livonia. He was born on July 7, 1942, in Tarrytown, NY the son of the late William II and Georgette (Renaud) Brown. Bill served as a teacher at Whitmore Lake Elementary from 1968 to 1971 before assuming the role of Principal/Administrator in Whitmore Lake Public Schools from 1971 to 1993.

Bill's passion for learning started early in life. He attended Wooster School in Danbury, CT, graduating in 1960. He continued his education at Danbury State University from 1960 to 1963. Bill's commitment to knowledge led him to earn a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan in 1968 and a Master's Degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1972.

In addition to his dedication to education, he proudly served his country as a member of the Air Force from 1963 to 1967. His service ended with an Honorable Discharge.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bill had many other interests that he enjoyed pursuing. He took pleasure in farming and beekeeping, where he not only found solace but also mentored other budding beekeepers. Additionally, he cherished spending time outdoors, engaging in hunting and fishing.

Among his proudest accomplishments was his loving marriage to Noel (Everlith) Schongalla until her passing on May 5, 2013. Together they built a beautiful family filled with love and joy.

Bill is survived by his son, Eric Schongalla; grandchildren, Elena and Brooke Schongalla; stepchildren, David Spaine, Jaqi Scheck, Daniel Spaine, Beth Whamond; and a faithful feline companion named Sophie, who was by his side for eleven years.

During his lifetime, Bill touched the lives of countless students and colleagues, leaving an indelible mark on the Whitmore Lake community. He will be remembered as a devoted and passionate educator, respected administrator, and caring family man.

Bill Schongalla will be dearly missed but always remembered for his unwavering dedication to education, his love for his family, and his commitment to serving others. May he rest in peace. 

In accordance with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place. No services have been scheduled at this time.
