Flint

William Terry Thomas, 85, of Flint, MI, passed away on September 11th surrounded by family and friends.

Terry was best known as the Owner of Bill Thomas’ Halo Burger which he took over when his father (Bill) suddenly passed away in 1973. Terry put his heart and soul into the business and helped grow it into a mid-Michigan staple. Terry, together with his sister Carolyn, and mother Frances, ran the business with an emphasis on supporting the city they loved while helping as many people as possible. Halo Burger was truly a family affair. Although Terry sold Halo Burger in 2010, it always kept a special place in his heart.

Terry married June Hill in 1964. Together they had four children starting with their two daughters Tiffiny (David) Randolph, and Tamra (Bud) Arms, and their two sons William “Tiger” (Lori) Thomas, and Travis (Hollister) Thomas. Terry and June were proud grandparents of 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

Terry was preceded in death by his wife June, grandson Cooper, his sister Carolyn, and his mother Frances who lived a full life, passing away at the age of 103.

Terry lived a big life! He was a man of faith and leaned on his spirituality to the end. He loved Flint, the community, and was extremely grateful for all of the loyal employees and friends over the years. If you met Terry, you were no doubt impacted by his joyous and inclusive personality. Terry was an avid sports fan, occasional coach, and he loved to sponsor teams in need, and could often be heard complaining about bad calls ;) Nothing made Terry happier than spending time with family on Lake Bellaire in northern Michigan or refusing to put on sunscreen on the beaches of Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Terry’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are spread out across the country. For that reason, the family will be holding a private celebration when they are all able to come together. Terry loved Flint, so In lieu of flowers, he would love for the people who loved him to treat themselves to a Kewpee (Halo) Deluxe with olives and a Boston Cooler. That’ll make Terry smile.

The family would like to thank the exceptional medical team, hospice caregivers, as well as the Abbey Park staff who graciously supported Terry’s life and all his care.

Private arrangements entrusted to Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI 48430. www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
