William Edward Thompson - Age 88, of Linden. William peacefully laid aside his earthly garment and continued his eternal journey in Infinite Love on July 30, 2026. He was born in Durand, Michigan on November 17, 1937, the son of Irving E. and Dorothy G. (Lab) Thompson.

Bill graduated from Durand High School in 1956 and later attended Mott Community College, University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. He was employed as a skilled tradesman and manufacturing engineer for 42 years at General Motors, Flint Metal Center. Concurrent with GM employment, he also spent 38 years teaching technical classes at Mott Community College. He retired from GM in 2000 and from Mott Community College in 2017.

Bill earned his Eagle Boy Scout rank in 1955 and attended a national jamboree in 1953 and a world jamboree in 1955. His hobbies included genealogy, community theater, photography, electronics and computers. Working virtually single handedly, he built the house that he and his family lived in. Bill was a Life Member of the Association for Research and Enlightenment. He is a member of American Mensa, Ltd., Scottish Clan MacTavish, the Durand Union Station, Colonial Williamsburg, and the Sons of the American Revolution.

He leaves behind a blended family consisting of his wonderful wife, Joy Fletcher-Thompson; children, James, Jeffrey and Joshua Thompson, Brian and Brad Curtis. He also leaves 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cheryl D. (King) Thompson and his daughter, Lynda (Thompson) Butts.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The family will gather from 2-3PM, followed by friends and family from 3-5PM. A service will be held at 5PM, followed by dinner at Vale Royal Barn & Inn, 11009 N. Old US 23, Fenton, MI 48430.
