September 10, 1927 — January 2, 2004

WEST, William A.  Age 76, of Flint, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2004 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 11 AM Monday, January 5, 2004 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Interment will be held at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint where veterans honors will be performed under the auspice of Swartz Creek VFW/Am. Vets Post #3720. Visitation will be from 6-9 PM Saturday and 2-4 and 6-9 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Swartz Creek VFW Post #3720 or the charity of ones choice. Bill was born on September 10, 1927 and grew up in Flint, MI. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II were he was stationed in France. He married Anna M. Styes in 1950, and built his own home in Swartz Creek where they have lived for over 50 years. He attended GMI and worked as a tool and dye maker for Fisher Body, Flint for 42 years, and retired with the second highest seniority at the time the factory closed in 1987. He belonged to the Swartz Creek VFW and served as Commander of the post during the 1970s. In his younger years he was an avid water skier and enjoyed boating on Silver Lake. He also loved hunting and fishing in the U.P., where he renovated a second home in St. Ignace. He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying his own airplane. Surviving are: his wife, Anna; daughters, Deborah Weiershauser and husband, Craig, Julie McGaffigan and husband, Tom; 3 grandchildren, Hilary, Brent, Sarah; brother, Richard Dick West and wife, Darla; sister, Darlene and husband, Dennis Parshall of Wisconsin; In-laws, Joe and Loraine Warner, Ed Styes, Dorothy West, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by: his son, William Billy C. West; his parents, John and Fern West; 2 brothers, John and Patrick; close brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Marge Adair.
