Woodrow Harold PICKERING

June 28, 1926 — March 19, 2013

PICKERING, WOODROW H., M.D. Dr. Woodrow Harold Pickering, 86, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Visitation only will be held 12PM to 6PM Wednesday March 27, 2013 and 4PM to 8PM Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Contributions may be made to your local Humane Society or the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Raised in Columbus, OH, Woody "Bud" was class president of West High, a proud eagle scout and a WWII Navy veteran. He was an OSU Buckeye, a graduate of George Washington University School of Medicine, and a board-certified family medicine specialist. He was proud to serve on the Ethics Committee for the Genesee County Medical Society. Practicing for 36 years, he delivered over 2000 babies and volunteered to work many hours in the ER after the massive 1953 Beecher Tornado. Woody was a friendly, kind, caring man, and his family was of utmost importance to him; all traits that made him a great family doctor. He retired in 1989 to his favorite place on Lake St. Helen where he continued to practice medicine as a volunteer. He is survived by his son, David (Sherry) Pickering; daughters, Ann Pickering and Nancy (Lyle) Boyer; granddaughters, Amber, Nicole, Renee and Sadie; great-grandchildren, Byron and Ryleigh; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis, in 2006 and his son, Michael, in 2013. Your fond memories and condolences may be shared on the obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
