Barry Cummings

February 14, 1977 — February 9, 2020

Barry Thomas Cummings passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020, due to complications from diabetes. Barry’s funeral arrangements are being handled by Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 East Broad Street, Linden. A funeral mass celebrating Barry’s life will be officiated by Father Anthony Strouse at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Avenue, Flint on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 12 noon. The family will receive visitors at St. Pius X from 11am until the time of the service.

Barry was born on February 14, 1977, the son of Larry Cummings and the late Bonnie Laney Allen. Barry was a life-long member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #8245. He was a graduate of Carman Ainsworth High School. Barry was employed at Freedom Works of Genesee County for over 10 years. He was an avid sports fan and could quote historical game statistics and special plays at random. Barry especially loved the Toronto Blue Jays, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Black Hawks, LA Lakers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Barry never missed an episode of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. He loved word search puzzles and always carried a puzzle book with him. Barry loved his family and was very proud of being a big brother to his sister KayLeigh. He faithfully called KayLeigh daily just to check on her and talk.

Barry bravely faced his health issues with determination, courage and hope. Barry’s wish was to be an organ donor so his legacy will live on through his eye and tissue donations to the Gift of Life Michigan organization.

Left to cherish his memory are his little sister, KayLeigh Allen, his father, Larry Cummings, half-sister, Allie and her family, his Grandma and Grandpa Cummings, his Aunt and primary care-giver Connie (Tom) Goggins, uncles John (Ronda) Laney and Don (Vicki) Laney, 6 special cousins and their families, family friend Martha and special friend Heather from FWOGC.

Special thanks to Barry’s army of caregivers for their kindness, support and dedication to Barry’s well-being including the health care professionals at Genesee Health System, all his doctors, the nurses at McLaren Hospital and the staff at both Lin-Hill AFC and Nandi Hills AFC.

Barry’s heavenly family include his mother, Bonnie Laney Allen, his Grandparents Charles and Dolores Laney, his Great Grandma Dear and many other loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or Gift of Life Michigan. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
