Carol Prior

February 7, 1929 — August 2, 2020

Carol Ruth Prior (nee Fogt) passed away on August 2, 2020. She was born on February 7th, 1929 and grew up in Highland Park, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit.  Her father passed away when Carol was young: she was raised by her late mother Fay, along with her two brothers Lester and George, now deceased.

Carol matriculated at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  Her college major was early childhood education.  She paid her way through college by working as a nurse’s aide at University Hospital in Ann Arbor.  She was a caring wife to Dr.  Richard W. (“Dick”) Prior for 67 years and a loving mother to four children: Reed R. Prior, Dr. Ross N. Prior, Dr. Beth C. Diehl and Judy K. Peck. She enjoyed spending time with her 9 grandchildren: Adam, Colleen, Leigh, Lewis, Elana, Andy, Jill, Ben, and Grady.

Carol concentrated on raising the children but also maintained an avid interest in the arts. In her post-university years, Carol became quite proficient in watercolor painting and clay sculpture, although she was best known for her creation of three-dimensional clay figures that she incorporated into framed wall hangings.  She was an exhibitor on the Michigan Art Train, at the Hartland Art Show as well as countless other local exhibits in Michigan and ultimately in Florida. Carol also taught her ceramic craft in different community forums throughout her life.

Upon retirement, Carol and her husband began splitting their time between Fenton, Michigan and various seasonal properties in Southwest Florida.  In recent years, they made Florida their permanent home, residing for 17 years in the Bentley Village retirement community in Naples, FL.

Carol loved animals! In her memory, please consider a donation to a local animal rescue organization.  Burial and interment will be private.  Arrangements by Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
