David E. Rowe

ROWE, David E.- age 75, of Flushing and Mackinac Island, died August 29, 2022. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, September 2, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. Interment will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. A Boy Scout Tribute will be at 7:00 PM Thursday. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Boy Scouts of America, Michigan Crossroads Council Sail Training (www.michiganscouting.org/outdooradventures/great-lakes-sailing-adventure/), American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or Humane Society of Genesee County (www.geneseehumane.org/). A memorial service will also be held on Mackinac Island at a later date.David was born August 25, 1947 in Flint, the son of Murland and Maxine (Brown) Rowe. He graduated from Greenville College where he also played basketball. David retired from General Motors / Delphi as a manager of College Recruiting and University Relations. After retirement David had a sailboat charter business on Mackinaw Island and was the Captain of his boat, Wild Honey. David was the Chairman of the Michigan Crossroads Council Sail Training Committee. He has led sail training programs for youth sailing in the Boy Scouts since 1979. He was a Coast Guard licensed Captain and held a Great Lakes Masters 100 Ton License. David has participated in many long distance races including: Six time participant in the Annapolis to Bermuda Ocean Race, Six Port Huron to Mackinac Races, Eight Chicago to Mackinac Races. He was a Past Commodore of the Mackinac Island Yacht Club. Surviving are: sister-in-law, Deborah Rowe; nephew, Randy (Chrissy) Miller; forever friends, Pat Hemingway, Bob and Lynne Ransom and Mike and Sarah Gidley. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Murland and Maxine Rowe and brother, Jerry Rowe. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
