Donald Myers

March 25, 1929 — October 13, 2020

MYERS, Donald Eugene - Age 91, of Flint Twp., passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Private Family Services will be held. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Parkinson's Foundation in memory of Eugene.

Eugene was born, March 25, 1929 in Flint, the son of Charles and Reva (Rossman) Myers. He graduated from Clio High School in 1947. He joined the Air Force and was Honorably discharged, then was recalled during the Korean War. Eugene as he was known to his family married the "Love of his Life"' his " Polish Princess", Sophie Swyrtek on October 11, 1952 at All Saints Catholic Church, Flint. He was employed at the Chevrolet Flint Mfg. Plant for 37 years, spending many years at Plant # 5. Eugene started first as a patrolman on plant protection, then went on supervision, retiring as Superintendent in the motor division until it closed in 1984. He later was employed at Carpenter Enterprises in Fenton as a Supervisor. Eugene was a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He served on the Ushers Club for many years volunteering for Bingo and Funeral Dinners. He also was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. Eugene later volunteered at the Carmen Ainsworth Senior Center, where he prepared tax returns for many seniors, as well as others in need. Eugene was an extremely generous person never expecting anything in return. He lived his life worthy of the values of his generation; honesty and integrity always putting his family first.  He enjoyed golf and was a runner who finished First in his age Group at the Crim Festival of Races before he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. He especially enjoyed traveling to his homes in Traverse City, Indian Shores, FL, and his get away at "Birch Hill" near Whittemore.

Eugene is survived by: children, Michael Myers, Sally (Ted) Petropoulos, Scott Myers, Laurie (Craig) Woodfield; grandchildren, Christopher Myers, Michael Myers, Candice (Fiance James Baer) Woodfield, Mark Petropoulos; siblings, Jack (Doris) Myers, Marilyn (Bill) Underwood, and Carole Burke; special cousin, Beverly LaRose; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: parents, wife, Sophie in 1993; son, David in 2011; granddaughter, Alexa Woodfield in 2008; brothers, Norman, and Gilbert; infant brothers, Ronald, and Jimmy; second wife, Hope Myers in 2019. Eugene's family wishes to thank the staff at Courtyard Manor, Swartz Creek for going above and beyond the call of duty in his last days, in these trying times.
