ANGELL, George Russell - Age 88, of Swartz Creek, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at St. Mary Queen of Angel's Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Rd., Swartz Creek.  Fr. George was born in Flint on May 9, 1932, the son of Merrill and Irene (Scobey) Angell.  He was a 1951 graduate of Flint Central High School.  He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Carmen Appolonia on November 13, 1954 in Flint.

He worked for GM Autoburn Plant, before purchasing Luigi's Restaurant in 1966 alongside his wife Carmen and his brother in law Louie Appolonia. After three decades of hard work and dedication, Luigi's and El Toro's became a landmark in Flint and Genesee County and remains one today.  He retired in 1996.  George and Carmen had a summer home in Tawas, MI for 25 years where family memories were made and cherished.  They also vacationed in Gulf Shores, AL for 25 winters enjoying the gulf sunshine.  Dad was an avid golfer and had a hole in one at age 78.  For 15 years he traveled to Wyoming with friends to hunt big game. They were Parishioners at St. Pius Parish for over 25 years and currently belonged to St. Mary Queen of Angel's.  He enjoyed playing cards and loved to travel, visiting many states and countries, making friends along the way.

We are blessed beyond years to have had this wonderful man in our lives and are eternally grateful.  No one could have asked for a better husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He never met a stranger and had more friends than you could count.  He was kind to everyone he met and will be sorely missed.

George leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Carmen; 3 children, Russell (Laura) Angell, Teri (Ted) Thomas, Nancy Metcalfe; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Diane (George) Gutgesell; sister in law, Betty Angell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Merrill and Irene Angell; brother, Eugene Angell; and many more beloved family members.  Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
