George was born in Ashland, Wisconsin, to Edward L. Dolan and Corine A. Layton, and was the oldest of four children.  George eventually moved to Mount Morris, Michigan, where he graduated from Mount Morris High School.  After high school, George enlisted in the United States Navy, during the Korean War, and was assigned to the Naval Construction Battalion a.k.a. “The Seabees.”
After Korea, George moved on to begin his career as an electrician, which is how he met his future wife Margaret Ann Brinker.  Margaret was working at Smith Bridgemans, in Flint, at the time, and George was wiring the store.  George and Margaret were married on November 14, 1953 and had four children together; Charles (Kris), Elaine (Mark), Patrick (Carol), and Timothy (Mary Jane).  Eventually, George and Margaret moved from Flint to Linden, Michigan, which they called home for the majority of their lives.  Both were happily married for over 66 years.
George began working as an electrician for General Motors and retired at a very young age.  Being the active man that he was, George reenlisted in the United States Military (Army), where he eventually retired at the highest Non-Commissioned Officer’s ranking that the United States Army can bestow; Command Sergeant Major.  Throughout his life, George was always active with the American Legion and Non Commissioned Officers Association.
As a man of God, George was an active member of South Mundy United Methodist church for over 55 years.  He was also a member of the Masons Linden, Michigan chapter and an avid bowler; being inducted into the Flint Hall of Bowling.
Most importantly, George was a family man.  He loved his wife Margaret, his four children Charles, Elaine, Patrick, and Timothy, and his seven grandchildren Michael (Christine), Kelli, Patrick, Daniel, Kathryn, Rachel, and Allison.  George had a heart that was larger than any one person could fill, which is why he was loved by everyone in his life.  The world lost a true gem on September 24th, 2020; he will be sorely missed by all.
