Gwendolyn Maguire

Maguire, Gwendolyn Jean (Thomas) of Grand Blanc, Age 88, passed away Monday, December 2, 2019 at West Hickory Haven Nursing Home in Milford, MI. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St. Davison, Rev. Fr. Andrew Czajkowski celebrant, burial to follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint, MI. Gwendolyn will lie in state at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Flint, MI 48507 where the family will receive visitors 4-8 pm on Thursday, and 12-8 pm on Friday. On Saturday, she will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter. Gwen was born in Hopwood, PA on March 30, 1931 the daughter of Henry and Virginia (Walker) Thomas. Following in her father’s footsteps, Gwen developed a love for music at a young age. While growing up in Pennsylvania, she enjoyed playing the organ and singing gospel with her mother in the church choir. In the early 1950’s, Gwen relocated to Detroit, Michigan. On August 2, 1958, she married Donald Maguire. They were blessed with four children. Gwen was an Administrative Assistant in the Neurology department at Wayne State University and retired in 1998, after 28 years of service. In her free time, Gwen especially loved listening to Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. She had a love for animals and enjoyed watching deer roam around her backyard. She cared for many dogs throughout her lifetime. Gwen also enjoyed playing bingo, watching shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune as well as doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Gwen is survived by her children, Michael Maguire; Diane (Van) McLee and Patricia Maguire Grandchildren, Alexandreau Maguire; Zachery Hohloch; Shelby Hohloch and Jasmine Johnson, Great- grandchildren, Jason Hillier II; Sadie Hillier and Kinsley Swope. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Don; daughter, Lynn Maguire-Hohloch; sister, Mattie Thomas, brothers Addison and Gerald Thomas.The family wishes to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff and West Hickory Haven Nursing Home.
