HOLMQUIST, Joanne Carole "Jomomma" Age 77 of Swartz Creek, died Wednesday, February 12, 2020 Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11AM Monday February 17 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 4413 Morrish Road Swartz Creek, Burial at St. Mary Cemetery, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Sunday where a Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM. Visitation will also be 10AM Monday until time of Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to Hurley Hospital Children's Oncology Unit. Joanne was born in Detroit, October 12, 1943 and orphaned at 9 days old. She was "picked out", taken home and raised by loving parents, Herman and Agnes (O'Connell) Loose. She attended Linden High School, C.S. Mott Community College and U of M Flint. She married Tom Holmquist in 1972. Joanne was employed by NuVision Inc. as Manager of Franchise Operations for nine years, retiring in 1997. Prior to that, "Jomamma" was the Fraternity House Mother for Alpha Tau Omega, Zeta XI chapter at General Motors Institute (GMI) for nine years. Joanne was committed to youngsters and served her community as a secretary to the Flint Boxing Commission and the Greater Flint Golden Gloves Tournament from 1972 to 1981. She was the first female recipient of the Judge Donald Freeman award in 1979. Joanne taught 11th grade CCD at St. Mary's Swartz Creek for a decade , was secretary for AYSO Region 512 for many years, also serving as a linesman and referee. Along with friends Donna McCoy and Jeanne Ortman, she founded "Ray Day" in 1984 to honor then Police Chief, Ray Adams. The event later became known as "Hometown Days". Joanne was a former officer of the Swartz Creek Homeowners Association and participated in many community projects. Her most recent dedication was working with committee members to build the Swartz Creek Area Veteran's Memorial and standing with the Patriot Guard of Michigan at numerous services for Military members. "Standing for those who stood for us." Joanne leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Tom; sons, Marty (Brenda) and Mickey (Kelly); 3rd son, Nick (Jenny) Paul; beloved grandchildren, Thomas, Leif, Garrett and Addison; God daughter, Virginia Riggs; sister and best friend, Lynn Misleh of PA; brother, Al Loose of Florida; and "her boys" of ATO, especially her "Novio", Henry Giron; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Doris Russell and Ann Bollander, dearest friend and mentors, Eleanor Ortman and "Papa" Amos Wischmeyer. "Jomamma's" final request for all who knew her: "Love the children, Honor our Military and pray for me so I won't have to stay in Purgatory too long."
