John KERR

KERR, John Paul - Age 63, of Royal Oak, formerly of Flushing, died Saturday, December 18, 2010. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Burial will follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Monday, 1-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to Michigan Veterans Foundation, 2770 Park Ave., Detroit, MI 48201. John was born February 5, 1947 in Lima, Ohio, the son of John Russell and Arnita Ruth (Baier) Kerr. He was a combat veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. Mr. Kerr worked for local non-profit organizations, including Insight for 21 years. John recently began work for the VA in Detroit with homeless veterans, a job he truly loved. He was a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Clio and was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak. His greatest love was softball, which included his team at Alma College and the Bad News Bears, a team he sponsored and coached. Surviving are: wife, Mary; daughter, Courtney Kerr Robinson and husband Earle of Flint; grandson, Andrew; sister, Ronda Kerr Showalter and husband Graham of Lewisburg, PA; step-children, Dwight Moore, Timothy Moore and Julie Vozar; best friend, Henry Tidwell; friends, Janice Hill-Wardwell, Sandee Bacha and Charlene Drown.
