Marguerite Hardie

February 3, 1924 — April 9, 2022

Fenton

Marguerite “Rita” Nissley Hardie, age 98, died of natural causes at
her home in Fenton, Michigan, on April 9, 2022.  She moved to Michigan
after almost 50 years in Tucson, Arizona, to be closer to her son
Warren and his family.

Rita was a graduate of Smith College and had a long career in real
estate, first in Elko, Nevada, then in Tucson, Arizona.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Byron S. Hardie, in 2006.
Travels with Byron during their 60 years of marriage were among her
favorite memories, starting with their 1946 honeymoon spent
hitch-hiking through Idaho.

Rita is survived by her sons, Byron Bruce Hardie and Warren Nissley
Hardie (Jennifer), and her daughter, Sidney Hardie, as well as
grandsons, Byron Hylton Hardie (Tara) and Adam Charles Hardie
(Katrina), granddaughter, Alexandra Marguerite Hardie, and
great-granddaughter, Avianna Diane Hardie.  In addition, she will be
sorely missed by her nieces, nephews, friends and extended family, all
of whom she cherished.

Rita loved sailing, fly fishing, tennis, skiing and, especially, golf.
When she wasn’t participating in sports, she was cheering for her
favorite basketball teams, tennis and golf players. After her move to
Michigan, she loved zipping around in a golf cart, snipping flowers
from her son’s beautiful gardens.

Rita’s sunny personality, sense of humor and sharp wits endeared her
to all who knew her.  As one grandniece put it: “GAR (Great Aunt Rita)
was quick with words of wisdom.”  As her children heard frequently,
“you don’t have to take my advice, but you have to let me give it.”

Funeral arrangements are private.  Interment will be at Great Lakes
National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan, along with her husband, Byron S.
Hardie. Arrangements are being handled by Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton
Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. The family requests those who
wish to express sympathy to consider a donation to their favorite
charity in Rita Hardie’s name.
