Mary Carpenter

CARPENTER, Mary "Elaine" - Age 87, of Burton, "great wife, mother and best friend to her husband Bill". Died Thursday April 9, 2020. A memorial service will be held 11:00AM July 11, 2020 at Lamb of God Lutheran Church, 2051 W. Maple Ave., Flint. Pastor Mark Pretznow officiating. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to Lamb of God Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or McLaren Hospice. Elaine was born December 18, 1932 in Mt. Morris, the daughter of Clarence Virlin and Jeanette May (Carbiener) Hummel. She married William Denton Carpenter in Flint on March 22, 1952. Elaine graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1950. She retired from Michigan Bell/Ameritech with 21 years of service. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church and former member of Swartz Creek Community Squares, Motivators Square Dance Club and many other square dance clubs. Elaine was an exceptional seamstress, great cook and devoted Christian. A longtime remembered quote by her youngest grandson was "her a good cook". Surviving are: husband of 68 years, William Carpenter of Burton; daughter, Mary Anne Filka of Tawas City; son, Joseph Denton (Cynthia) Carpenter of Grand Blanc, five grandchildren, Amy (Russell) Kolb, Luke (Laura) Daniels, Krista (Michael) Reed, Jacob (Shelby) Carpenter, and Jessica Carpenter; eight great grandchildren. Elaine was also survived by sister-in-law Shirley Hummel of Davison; brothers, Howard (Reba) Hummel of Burton, Carl Hummel of Grand Blanc, Earl (Sue) Hummel of Burton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Carpenter, brother Donald Hummel; sister, Jean Greer.
