SALERNO, Mary (Gandolfo) - Age 85, of Linden, died Thursday, August 4, 2022.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Chruch, 600 N. Adelaide St, Fenton.  Fr. David Harvey celebrant.  Burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Fenton.   Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Monday from 4-8 PM where a Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM; and at church Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the St. John Chapel Restoration Fund or Linden Library "Linden Gift Fund", 201 North Main St, Linden, MI 48451.

Mary was born September 24, 1936 in Dearborn, the daughter of Nicolo and Maria Carrao.  She was a 1954 graduate of Fordson High School in Dearborn; where she was president of the Spanish Club, Los Amigos, and worked on the Tower Tribune (school newspaper) as the copy director, and Fleur de Lis.  After graduation she was employed at Cadillac Motor Car Division in the Personnel Department, later becoming secretary to the Director of Public Relations.  On October 22, 1955 she married Ignazio "Chuck" Salerno at St. Alphonsus Church in Dearborn. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and an active member of St. John's Council of Catholic Women.  She also was member and past president of P.O.L.D. (Paraprofessional Organization of the Linden District), former member of the Linden Library Board, the Open Gate Club (Charter Member) and Questers.

Surviving are: her children, Charles M. (Patricia) Salerno, Michael S. Salerno, Frances (John) Elliott, and Mary (Dave Taylor) Kolanowski; grandchildren, Michael, Jessica (Brady), Erica, and Ethan; great grandson, Mavrick; brother, Edward (Becky) Gandolfo; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, Thomas Kolanowski; sister, Margaret; and brothers, James, Anthony, and Philip.  Online tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
