Max was born July 30, 1936 in Flint, the son of Robert D. and Ruth (Lound) Hogan.  He lived in the south end of Flint for most of his life, and later in Fenton.  He was a man of deep faith, loyalty and generosity.  Max graduated from Flint Central High School, where he played Varsity Football.  He was a caddy at Flint Country Club from age of 10 until he graduated, which instilled his life-long love of golf.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. where he was selected for Sea School and served as a Marine aboard Naval aircraft carriers.  Following discharge, he worked for 35 years at the General Motors Grand Blanc plant.

Until the age of 55, Max was a quiet bachelor, a faithful member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Flint, devoted to his family and golf.  He was a member of many golf leagues and golf trips, and especially enjoyed an annual outing to Callaway Gardens with the same group of golf buddies.  Locally, he achieved a golfer's ultimate goal, a hole in one.  He bowled, played blooper ball and tennis, and enjoyed attending many sporting events.  he ended his bachelorhood on July 20, 1991, when he married Judy Riddle, a Fenton High School teacher, whom he met on the golf course.  He then resided in Fenton and became a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.  Together, Max and Judy enjoyed many more years of golf and following sports, spending time with family and friends, traveling to Arizona, and eating out.

Max is survived by sisters, Sharon (Mike) Neaves and Mary Kirkpatrick; special nieces and nephews, Kate Kirkpatrick, Kellie (Bruce) Garrison, Bob (Jennifer) Hogan, D'Etta (Lee) Seward, Todd (Kris) Neaves; sisters-in-law, Karen (Jim) McDevitt and Pam (Bruce) Rimmer; close niece-in-law, Susan (John) Dasky; niece-in-law, Alissa (Curtis) Rinke; nephews-in-law, Matt (Cindy) McDevitt, Todd Runfeldt; and several great nieces and great nephews whom he enjoyed immensely, Nick, Jaclyn (Rob), Grace, Jake, Kaylin, Andrea, Allison, Maddy, Georgie, Josie, Andrew, Ty and Sloane; and very special friend, Roseanne Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 26 years, Judy; his brother, Robert; and sister, Anne.  Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
