S. Victor Nyberg

NYBERG, S. Victor - Age 92, of Fenton and Sun City West, AZ, died Monday, February 15, 2021. Services will be held 1PM Monday, March 8, 2021 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, with visitation from 11AM until the time of service. Interment will take place at a later date at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the Lupus Foundation. Victor was born May 16, 1928 in Flint, the son of Sven A. and Helga (Anderson) Nyberg. He graduate from Flint Central High School, Class of 1946. He married Betty L. Giesenhaver on June 1, 1957. He enlisted in the US Navy in May of 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1948. He was appointed to the Flint Police Department in July of 1949. In 1955, at the age of 26, he was promoted to Detective, the youngest person promoted to that rank in the history of the Department. He rose through the ranks to Detective Lieutenant and served as the Commanding Officer for several squads. He was the recipient of the departmental "Meritorious Citation Award" for action above and beyond the call of duty. During his law enforcement career, he was the recipient of several firearms awards. He retired from the Flint Police Department in 1974. He served for several years as on-site estate security at Applewood Estate and personal driver for Mrs. Ruth Mott. Victor was also a life member of the following: Fraternal Order of Police #126, Genesee Masonic Lodge #174, Elf Khurafeh and Bay City Consistory. Surviving are his children, Michael W. (Kathy) Foskett of Alger, Claudette Foskett of Fenton, Edwin V. (Jill) Nyberg of Glendale, AZ; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Edwin O.
